The Film

"The Children of Hip Hop" is a project in which I've invested considerable energy--a creative, entertaining and provocative narrative which, through the characters in the film, examines recent cultural critiques of Hip Hop from a variety of perspectives (both positive and negative). I am certain this film will prove timely and relevant, and has extraordinary commercial potential.

Portrayals of the Bronx in recent films have tended toward the negative and the bleak--promoting images that are often absent of all

hope. However, the people that live in this area of New York City have a history, and very few films depict that history, or the diversity of

the people living in the borough. In an attempt to broaden narrow perspectives, "The Children of Hip Hop" addresses these limited (and limiting) depictions, attempting to complicate stale notions by offering an alternatively rich portrayal of disparate lives through three vignettes -- "Mark," "Iris" and "Bobby V." Through their stories we see the struggles of a local teenager; the vision of a political activist; the thwarted ambition of a record producer who wants to create positive Hip Hop; the teens and twenty-somethings compelled to make music of their own; the girl that grew up in the neighborhood and wants to give back-- without going back for good.

All this and more makes "The Children of Hip Hop " a film that has to Be made. It's important that the faces, thoughts and dreams of this

community are seen and heard on the big screen. Hollywood is not interested in telling these stories. I imagine they're afraid to

let people in on a big secret--that these people are no different than a farmer in Iowa or a Coal Miner in Oklahoma...that they are hard working Americans that want the best for their children,

I really believe that it's important that this film is made.

Lets make it happen!
